Internationalism

Last week, I started a new job at an ISP here in Perth, Australia - iiNet. Guess what site was featured as the Site of the Day today on their main website (www.iinet.net.au).. Yep :)

This brought up a through when it comes to speeding up international access to Livejournal:
Images.

HTML and webpages are easy, but images are slow to load.
What do people think about mirroring img.livejournal.com in various countrys, and having that server loadballance to a local mirror for the person looking at it?

I know I'm already busy trying to get the dev server live, but this is just something I want to propose :)
