I am contemplating a site that would be oriented toward LJ users. Site would require registration for functionality. Ideally, I would like to restrict registration of usernames on the site to the corresponding users (so only adudeabides could register as phadguy on Site). OpenID can be used to prove identity. But can this be stretched to be a feature-rich site's only login system?
Barely thinking about it, I don't see why it couldn't. But as I said...I'm not really the best in this regard. If so, can someone point me in the direction I need to go to understand how best this could be accomplished, I'd greatly appreciate that. I'm not entirely sure how I would supplant the login system with OpenID on a database-driven site.
If more info would help in answering the question, just ask. I can pretty much answer clarifying questions...I just don't initially want to go into more detail because I'm slow and I'd hate for someone to beat me to my idea. ;p
