LJ.XMLRPC.getdaycounts performance question

I'm scratching an itch and creating my own LJBackup utility to download and archive my LJ. I figured the best place to start is by getting the dates and counts of posts. This call seems to really take a long time. For comparison, I ran semagic client which shows the pretty GUI history and it seems to go really fast. [Edit: I'm talking on the order of 5 minutes to get a response.]

I am using a COM component for XML-RPC from EnAppSys in a VB 6 application. To test that this wasn't a component issue, I made calls to login which ran really fast. The slowdown seems related to the getdaycounts call.

Is there a recommended approach to using getdaycounts efficiently, or do I just buy the hit up front while it returns counts?

If this has been answered previously, I apologize, I did a quick subjects search for the last year and didn't see this specific issue.

Kindest regards

[Update] Per message from bradfitz, I slapped tdimon on my system and found that the rpc call is completing quickly as brad indicated. I appreciate the quick followup - guess it's time to contact the XMLRPC component owner and find out why it's taking order of minutes. If I ever get this LJBackup utility to work for my purposes, I'll release it to the wild.
