Styles in Read Comments/Post on Friends' Journals

I've noticed several of my friends have switched to a certain new style (see macosx for example).

Enter me, reading my friends list. When I go to post a comment or read comments on any journal with that style, I get comments page with in that style, rather than the default LJ.

Reading your friends list in the past only subjected you to your own friends list style & the default for the comment pages (post + read), which I liked.

I find that style cluttered & hard to read, and now I'm being forced to use it.
Is there a setting somewhere that will let me force it back? Or is this an annoying bug?
