S2 help

Okay: so I'm not a developer. In fact, I'm far from it. I'm just a novice livejournal user who is starting to get frustrated with the system. First of all, I can't seem to find any explanation of how to use the new S2 style system. All I want to do is move my journal over to that system so that all of my pages, including comments and month view, look the same. Simple, right? I have no clue how to do it, and the S2 manual is foreign to me--it assumes some knowledge that I do not have (I don't think it's fair that S1 is being abandoned because it's much easier to use. I just want to make a simple HTML webpage!). I am not against learning new things--but LJ has created their own language without any easily accessible support.

What I would love is a simple, bare-bones template of sorts, with all the necessary elements coded and the HTML of which I could edit myself. I don't want anything fancy for my journal--I plan to keep it as simple as it is now. Can anybody help me here?

I've just been having no luck whatsoever finding any assistance here at LJ...I'm getting to the end of my rope. I am a paid account holder--there shouldn't be this much grief involved.
And also, another thing that blows my mind: why is there no link to http://www.livejournal.com/customize/ on livejournal.com?
