What machinery does LJ run on? [Apr. 4th, 2002|01:19 pm]

Hi everyone, Stars' Pyre here- Kasoushei Tennoryuu, or just *, as you prefer. I run a few internet businesses, a personal site, do game development, study games theory, cognition and its engineering applications . . . among other entertaining randomness - ^

Question of the day. . . .
How much space does Livejournal take up? What machines does the system run on? What machines does livejournal depend on? For example, for its connection to the greater internet at large.

Prompted by this post I found amusing:

" Since LJ takes up like 2,000 gigs of HD space (I dunno that for sure but I think I read it somewhere), that'd take forever and would prolly be a strain on the system."

Recycling issues [Apr. 4th, 2002|01:26 pm]

What prevents livejournal usernames from recycling?

Currently, deleted journals claim that they will recycle . . .
for example

a lot of threads claim recycling works . . . this one on renaming
for example

yet I know of no journals that actually recycled. Ever.

Any observations to add? Questions/comments/statements/manifetos to hopefully clear up this inconsistency?
