More parts [Apr. 23rd, 2001|04:36 pm]
LiveJournal Development

Another gig of memory for Cartman came today .... two new harddrives for Kenny came too, but I wasn't here to get them so I have to go pick them up tonight at the warehouse. If I can convince Evan (or somebody in Seattle), I'm going to go upgrade those tonight. Upgrading servers by myself is scary and lonely. :-)

mod_backhand is pissing Dormando and I off still. It's having problems opening connections to the slave machines. We thought it was the kernel bug, but perhaps not. Much debug log investigating to do. But Dormando's workstation died, so maybe I'll have to look at it... ugh.

Java Applet v0.1.0 up and running [Apr. 23rd, 2001|11:18 pm]
LiveJournal Development

I've finished getting the Java Applet client up and running, and you can find it at www.livejournal.com/dev/applet. As it mentions on the page, you'll need the Java Plug-in for it to work, which most newer browsers should have (and there's a link on the page to get it). There's also a link to the source code, and an address to send any bug reports or suggestions to.

It's a little slow loading at the moment, but I think I can fix this by putting all of the class files into a Jar (which results in fewer http requests/transfers). Let me know what you think. It's not a great replacement for any of the major clients, but I think will eventually make a good alternative to the web interface for people who can't install a client on the machine they're using.

Oh, it's called "Pepys". If you're wondering why, this might explain it :)
