Installing Livejournal: location of files and importance of Subversion [Jul. 12th, 2012|08:13 pm]

I wish to install Livejournal for my website. I tried my best, but I could not find a page or location from where I can download the LJ installation files. My sites are hosted at IXwebhosting.com, and they told me that my account has Perl(v5.8.8), MySQL - 5.0.41, apache-1.3.37, mod_perl 1.29, but no Subversion. So, here are my questions:

1. From where do I download the files needed to install Livejournal for my website? Will I be able to install them through FTP?

2. How important or compulsory is it to have Subversion for installation and maintenance of Livejournal? Will it be possible to get updates and keep the software up-to-date without Subversion?

Supported method for changing main site index.html [Dec. 3rd, 2009|03:22 pm]

New site up and running and I'm to the point of editing the main index page. On the page it says to reference this

You'll want to customize this page. Read the instructions at http://www.livejournal.com/doc/server/lj.customize.index.html for help.

to update the page. The only thing I see that might relate in there is the section about updating a language file.

Should I update it the normal way by creating it in my CVS local directory and syncing it over, or is there a different method for site pages like the main index?

I just did a clean installation of LJ and am getting the following errors:

Can't locate object method "is_sup_enabled" via package "LJ::SUP" (perhaps you forgot to load "LJ::SUP"?) at /home/lj/cgi-bin/weblib.pl line 2067. @ www.mydomain.com

"my" variable $getextra masks earlier declaration in same scope at '/home/lj/htdocs/editjournal.bml' line 40.

Using a hash as a reference is deprecated at '/home/lj/htdocs/editjournal.bml' line 357.

I have gone through the documentation and member comments, but was unable to find a solution. Help is needed, urgently, please!

Hey there everyone. Please forgive me if this is the wrong section, I am new. lol

I have been developing wordpress websites/blogs quite successfully for the past two years or so and had a bit of a background in hand coding before that, I am not however, a "pro" web designer by any means. This is more of a hobby than anything (currently work for an mrp software manufacturer/provider by day, still in the tech industry though) :)

I have had a number of potential clients request for me to develop them a website on the LJ platform and truth be told, I really know very little about LJ.

I feel that I am just leaving money on the table by sending these prospects away. I think more than anything, I am really just hoping that someone might get me pointed in the right direction here, maybe a few great tutorials, developers sheet, anything at this point. I would really like to start at the bottom and go from there. One problem I have found, is that when you get used to working with WP's structure and templating system, you seem to become quite used to it, and find it difficult to work in other environments.

Versions of TheSchwartz on the 6A and LJ repos diverged [Mar. 13th, 2009|12:23 pm]

It looks like the versions of TheSchwartz in the LJ repository (http://code.livejournal.org/trac/TheSchwartz/log/) and the 6A repository (http://code.sixapart.com/trac/TheSchwartz/log/) diverged some 6 months ago and are also both different from the CPAN version (http://search.cpan.org/~bradfitz/TheSchwartz-1.07/). As far as I know, this wasn't announced, which brings a few questions:

1- Are they going to be merged again, or is this an unofficial or not-yet-announced fork?
2- If it is, which ones work with LJ-originated code? (I know the LJI-hosted one works, but I'd like to hear about the other 2.)
3- Which one (if any) is "official" (in the narrow sense of "will be tracked on CPAN")?
4- Are they able to coexist peacefully, eg if an application indirectly depends on both?

Files moved in livejournal repository [Mar. 12th, 2009|07:06 pm]

A friend of mine pointed out to me that a recent changeset in the livejournal repository moved several important files from their main directories to a backup/ directory.

This means that any new installs of the LJ code will need to run the following command after doing the initial --init:

cp -a $LJHOME/backup/* $LJHOME

This command will also be needed if you update your LJ code to a version past this changeset. If you don't do this, you won't have things like a homepage or create page.

However, there are also several images which were deleted, so you will also need to do the following:

for img in editinfo hourglass journal pencil scrapbook search userinfo; do svn export http://code.livejournal.org/svn/livejournal/trunk/htdocs/img/$img.gif@14809 $LJHOME/htdocs/img/$img.gif; done

Hi,

I'm trying to make a testinstall of LJ. It doesn't work on my machine, though, and whilst trying to figure out why, I ran checkconfig.pl. It revealed the following errors:

[Checking for Perl Modules....]

Warning: BetaFeatures module cannot be used unless 'betafeatures' cap is configured.
Problem:
* Config errors: Unknown config option: $ALLOW_CLUSTER_SELECT,
Unknown config option: $BIRTHDAY_NOTIFS_ADVANCE,

Is this enough to prevent LJ from working?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to make a testinstall of LJ - but Apache won't start claiming it's missing a module called reCAPTCHA.pm.

Captcha.pm is installed, but doesn't refer to reCAPTCHA.pm - and there's no module of that name: What have I done wrong?

Regards,
Lars

[mood |exhaustedexhausted]

Ok I got the hosting done now I have a problem with this part of the install

svn co http://code.sixapart.com/svn/vcv/trunk vcv
svn export http://code.sixapart.com/svn/livejournal/trunk/cvs/multicvs.conf
vcv/bin/vcv --conf=multicvs.conf --checkout
 vcv/bin/vcv --conf=multicvs.conf --init

svn pulls down vcv and puts it in vcv/bin/vcv fine  it then pulls donw the multicvs.conf file fine BUT when I go to do checkout it pulls down a bunch of file but then stops with error

svn: REPORT request failed on '/svn/livejournal/!svn/vcc/default'

svn: REPORT of '/svn/livejournal/!svn/vcc/default' : 200 OK (http://code.sixapart.com)

failed to run svn: is it installed? at vcv/bin/vcv line 175, <C> line 13

If some one can help me with this problem it would be MUCH APPRCIATED thank you

and yes svn is installed...

Also when I try to create a new journal it brings up the create name/password page then when I click the button it says " Sorry, there was a problem"
