Timeout

Hi,

Does anybody know what is the minimal allowed timeout between two xmlrpc requests to the LiveJournal server? Yes, I know, there is so called "Bot policy" (http://www.livejournal.com/bots/) that says: "do not connect more than five times per second.", but since LJ documentation is usually not up to date, I need some formal clarification on this, if possible.

That probably depends a lot on the length of the burst/stream of requests. I would be very surprised, for instance, if when visiting my fpage or someone's journal, my browser paced the requests for CSS, pics, JS, etc... to stay under 5 per second.

Yeah, I agree. I frequently open all of my reading filters at once and it doesn't cause an issue.

The "do not connect more than five times per second" rule is still accurate. In practice, whether or not you'll get blocked will depend on frequency and duration of the requests, along with how many total requests are being made. So, if you happen to occasionally exceed this limit for a short duration, you probably won't get blocked. If you exceed this request rate for long periods of time, or by a huge amount, however, you are likely to get your IP blocked.
